INVESTIGATION INTO WHY YOUNG PEOPLE WERE BEING RADICALISED BY ISIS

ISIS: YOUNG, BRITISH AND RADICALISED

SYNOPSIS

After multiple attacks across the world, we tackled this global issue head one – by speaking to a British ISIS fighter in Syria.  In this brave and bold move we wanted to understand why and how he became radicalised.

Presented by BBC Newsnight’s Secunder Kermani we explored how they attempt to attract new recruits by hearing from former extremists, counter-terrorism police and following the journey of a former supermarket security guard now fighting with ISIS in Syria. Secunder also met the devastated family and friends of Britain’s young jihadis here in the UK and explored the government’s continued efforts to tackle the problem.

Further to this documenatary we also produced a live debate programme with Tina Daheley at BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge for the BBC News Channel and Newsbeat where young British Muslims discussed how a small number of their community are being radicalised.

QUOTE

“Well done for such an amazing programme. The BBC should be applauded for making it, and for broadcasting.

We need more programmes like this. It could actually, surely, help.”
